Hendrik van den Driesch

Hendrik van den Driesch
Hendrik van den Driesch was born in 1919 in Mechelen, near Antwerp (Belgium).
He studied Sociology and Economics at the University of Ghent and then enrolled at the Imperial University of Strasbourg with the intention of obtaining a doctorate in Political Science.
However, the end of World War II prevented him from gaining his PhD. In 1943, he was appointed a lecturer for the Dutch Language and History at the same university. From 1944 to 1945, he was the entertainment officer for the Emperor Wilhelm Institute (today: the Max Planck Institute) in Heidelberg.
After the war, he was held briefly in Belgian captivity, afterwards moving to Tyrol. Because of his oral fluency and written proficiency in not only Dutch and German but also in French and English, he was employed at first as an interpreter for agencies of the American and French military governments, as well as working in a linguistic publishing house in Innsbruck.
In 1959, he moved to South Tyrol and founded the Italian branch office of Industrie-Vertrieb GmbH (a subsidiary company of AEG).
He was a member of the Alpine Rescue Service and a translator/interpreter for IKAR (the International Commission for Alpine Rescue).

- 1967: Foundation of the Studio Traduc translation agency in Bozen/Bolzano, located at Pfarrplatz 4
- Co-operation with the Tradeurope translation agency, South Tyrol’s first translation company, which was closed after the demise of its proprietor.
- 1975: Studio Traduc relocates to Sparkassenstrasse 13
- 1994: Another move, this time to Dr.-Streiter-Gasse 10B
- July of 1999: Hendrik van den Driesch passes away at the age of 79 years after a hospital operation in Bozen/Bolzano.
